#21: Two Maltese Athletes Claim MOC Sports Award

The Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC) Gala night was hosted on the 1st of December 2023. The event saw Malta’s top athletes convene, that they may be awarded for their achievements from the period of October 2022 to October 2023.

The Malta Taekwondo Association sent four nominations for consideration by the MOC. These were Nathan Degiorgio (DAM), Jean Schembri (ITL), Alycia Cassar (ITL) and Michela Scerri (ITL).

The four went through an additional selection by a committee entrusted by the MOC itself, and two of the four were granted the award.

Michela Scerri and Alycia Cassar, both ITL athletes, were given the award.

Michela’s consistent medal haul, particularly her Gold in Albania was the driving force behind hers. It is important to note that this was the second consecutive year Michela claimed the award.

Alycia’s Gold Medal in the Sweden G1 - a tournament that saw her overcome national teams Korea, Italy, and the USA - was the driving force behind her award.

The Association congratulates these two young Taekwondo fighters who as of next year will be changing their category from cadet to junior.
